Studio Live Production: Chosen Show

After doing our pitches we found out whose idea was chosen and that was Helen.

Her idea is to have a debate show and people to discuss a variety of topics. There will be four people on the panel and there will be relevant guests on the show. It is similar to ITV's 'Loose women' and Channel 4's 'The Wright Stuff.' It was very different to previous years shows, as well as everyone else's ideas in the class. One of my original ideas, that I ended up not pursuing into was a chat show, so i'm glad we are doing this for the live show.

Here is her pitch:

Professional Practice: Meeting with Verity

Verity Rae Martin the principle of the Pauline Quirke Academy in Rochester, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells was able to come in and meet everyone interested in her commission proposition/work placement.

I really was interested in the commission position and made sure that I was able to find out as much  information about the academy by asking some questions. She was able to give us some brochures about the academy to look at and her business card. I already had an idea on an anti-bullying video and we were going to meet after the meeting however Verity had to leave early, so she gave me her email.

Later that day I was able to email her with my idea and got a reply back; she said that she really liked my idea. We was able to arrange a date for me to visit the Rochester academy.

I'm not sure what I will be doing however, i'm looking forward to checking out the academy and to hopefully work on this project.

Studio Live Production: Post Pitch

I have finally done my pitch. I'm a bit 50/50 with how well it went though...

I felt that I presented the idea well, however I feel that I could have researched more into the channel I want my program to be on as well as what time it should be on.

I was asked a couple of questions at the end of my presentation, mainly about the tone of my channel. It was one of the things I forgot to put on my presentation, I explained that it was more of a funny and upbeat show, similar to 'I'm a Celebrity,' rather than something dark like 'Fear Factor.'

They also didn't really like the title that much as it reminded them of a show that is already on TV called, 'The Cube.' However as it is a working title it is something that can be changed in the future.

Another query was what type of insects I would use, I had to explain that I wouldn't use insects such as crickets as they would be uncontrollable and may escape onto the studio floor.

Other than that the pitch went well, even though I don't feel 100% about it.

Studio Live Production: Pitch

After researching into a couple of shows, I finally came up with more details for my show, such as the levels and what they will include as well as what the set would be like and the type of talent I want.

Here is my presentation:

Here is my page pitch:

Studio Live Production: Research 2

For a couple of levels for my show idea I wanted to look into what type of items/substances I could include in the boxes.

Here are some possible ideas, of what will be in each box:

Saw Dust

Baked Beans

Maggots

Porridge

Straw

These are just some of the ideas I have on what will be included in the boxes. I'm looking into using items/substances that are available easily and that are cheap.

Studio News Production: Research 1

After speaking to Helen, I started to look into programmes that were similar to what I wanted to create.
Fear Factor

Each person has to pick two doughnuts from the tray, however they could have anything inside them. The person has to eat both of them as well as drinking a pint glass of curdled milk.

For this particular challenge the person got rotten squid in squid ink.

The person was given an amount of time to eat and drink everything, however she didn’t finish eating and was eliminated from going further into the show.

I used to watch this show ages ago. It was an American stunt/reality game show, filled with challenges people had to do. The prize for this show was usually $50,000.

This show is similar to my idea, as people have to go through different challenges through three levels, however my challenges would somehow involve a box.

The Cube

Celebrity special with gold medallists such as, Mo Farah. Mo is on the last level and if he wins this challenge, he will then win £250, 000 for a chosen charity.

In this particular challenge he has seven lives/attempts and has to go across some obstacles, while blind folded.

If he can cross the cube without knocking down a stick, he then wins the prize.

There is no time limit and in some parts there is slow motion especially when he was crossing over the sticks (To create tension, to see whether he was going to knock them over or not).

Similar to other shows there is a challenge Mo has to do in order to pass to the next level, however this time there are life limits and no time limits.

I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here

This episode is from 2012 season.

The celebrities had to get into a box and move 10 metal parts from one side of the box to the other. The metal parts had to land in a cylinder and they had to use magnets to move them.

After a certain amount of time bugs were released in the box with them. Whenever someone would complete the challenge the other who were still in the box would get electrocuted.

This show yet again is very similar to my idea, especially because it actually involves a box in the challenge.

This particular challenge has given me some ideas on what the type of challenges will be on each level, for example a puzzle challenge where you have to put a ball within a maze and get it through to the other side.

Overall I feel that I have looked into a good amount of shows to get ideas for my show and to see what is entertaining at the moment.

Professional Practice: Pauline Quirke Academy

For this unit we can either choose to do a work placement, commission for a company or write a case study.

Work Placement

wok placement for about 3-4 weeks within a media related company, or a media related production.

Commission

Professional project (video) for an external commissioner.

Professional Case Study

Research into a professional that you are interested in and examine their work. Relate this to your own experience so far.

Out of the options I would prefer to do either a work placement or commission.

We had a presentation with Laura and she showed us places that were looking for people to do either a work placement or commission video for them. One option that stood out for me was a commission and that was to do a commission video for the 'Pauline Quirke Academy.'

For this commission we have to work alongside the academy and it's students and produce a mini film on any topic.

Suggested topics could be:

- Bullying and how it effects young people
- Film about the PQA and it's students
- Film a documentary piece about the PQA events/productions

I have a couple ideas on what I could do already.

I am now going to research more about the academy.
